Our soft structured carriers are made with 100% European linen, linen/cotton blend, hemp/cotton blend and tencel fabrics.
Are the dyes used in your fabrics safe?
Yes. Our textiles are dyed using OEKO-TEX certified dyes.
Are your carriers certified organic?
Anytime we use a textile that is certified organic we will note it in the product listing.
Linen and hemp are natural fibers that are naturally pest resistant and do not require much water, fertilizers or pesticides to grow.
Tencel is a biodegradable cellulose fiber created from sustainably harvested eucalyptus trees which are grown without pesticides, fertilizer or irrigation, and is produced through a closed loop, eco-friendly process.
Our wraps are a blend of Tencel/Modal and organic cotton.
Is your foam safe?
Yes. The foam in the padded areas are made with a food grade CertiPUR-US® certified foam.
Are you carriers treated with any flame retardants or other water and stain repellents?
No, none of the materials used in the production of our carriers are treated with any flame retardants or water/stain repellents. Additionally, our carriers are tested for lead, phthalates, and total organic fluorine (and indicator of the presence of PFAS).
Are your carriers plus size friendly?
Yes! The waistband on all styles is approximately 52". If additional length is needed, we have 18" extenders available. Please email customer service to arrange. If you need any assistance with fit, we offer a complimentary consultation with a certified babywearing educator. We also have a wonderful and supportive Facebook community that is happy to share pics, tips, and experience.
Do your carriers fit petite wearers?
Yes! Our carriers that have waistbands go as small as 20". Feel free to join our Facebook community to hear from other petite wearers.
Where are your baby carriers made?
We are proud to say that our baby carriers are made in the USA with US components*. Fabric is imported. The majority of our carriers are sewn by a talented team of work-from-home sewists that are paid a fair, living wage.
*To help catch up with demand at the end of 2023, we have had some carriers made in Turkey. Those specific colorways are listed as made in Turkey on the related product pages. Our factory partner in Turkey is a member of SEDEX which promotes responsible and ethical business practices within the supply chain, focusing on labor standards, health and safety, environmental practices, and business ethics.
When can I switch from the newborn carry to the front carry?
Newborns 7+ lbs can be worn legs-out from the beginning. Simply cinch the carrier to the smallest setting that allows the panel to spread and support from knee pit to knee pit without pushing into the back of baby's legs and causing the legs to hyperextend. If you need to cinch smaller, the cinching can be brought around and connected in front of the carrier panel. This will make the panel even smaller. Additionally, the waistband on the Original and Versa style carriers may be rolled 1-2x to shorten the panel and ensure baby is sitting at a safe height. The panel should ideally come no higher than the middle of baby's ears.
The legs-in position is an option during the "newborn scunch' phase during the first few weeks of life. If you chose to do the newborn legs-in position, make sure baby is in the froggy position, that baby's weight is on their bum, and that they are not sitting on top of their feet. You may need to roll the waistband 1-2x to make sure they are sitting at an appropriate height. Do not cinch the carrier for the legs-in position.
Can I place my child in a forward facing position in this carrier?
Only the Revolution carrier is designed to accommodate a forward facing position and only once baby is a minimum of six monthsand sitting unassisted. No other Happy Baby carrier styles are designed for a forward facing position.
I think my buckle was sewn on backwards, can you help?
If your buckle looks like it was sewn on the wrong side, you most likely are putting the carrier on incorrectly. This carrier is not put on like other SSCs. Our carrier is put on upside down with the warning label facing out away from you. You can find detailed instructions here: https://happybabycarriers.com/pages/front-carry. When worn properly, the buckle is sewn on correctly and not backwards.
Can I wear my baby on my back?
Yes! The Original, Revolution, Onbuhimo, Versa, and Toddler carriers can all be worn on the front or on the back. All other carrier styles are front inward carry position only. You can find a comparison here. Children worn on the back must have excellent head control. We recommend the child be at least 6 months and sitting unassisted.
How does the Happy Carrier compare to the other baby carriers?
We designed the Happy baby carrier to be as beautiful as it is functional. From the purse holder on each shoulder to the oversized hidden pocket, it has all of the functions you’d expect from a soft structure carrier but with a minimal design aesthetic. Our carriers are 30-50% lighter than other carriers, thanks in large part to our luxurious linen fabrics as well as component selection. We have been told our carriers are also more comfortable than others due to our ergonomically shaped shoulder straps and extra cushiony foam.
Happy Onbuhimo FAQ
How does the onbuhimo work? Will my baby fall out the bottom?
The onbuhimo is a Japanese-inspired waistless carrier. Baby sits in the main panel with the legs brought through the armholes. Our extra long panel is then pulled up and will go between you and your baby. The flap and snaps are not what supports your baby so be sure to follow the instructions and use your carrier appropriately.
Why won't the snaps on my onbuhimo stay closed?
The snaps are specifically intended for use with newborns (minimum of 7lbs) and are not intended to be weight bearing. Babies will outgrow them within a few months. Older babies do not need to use the snaps so there is no need to worry if they don't fit or come undone.
Happy Wrap FAQ
What is the weight range for your baby wraps?
The recommended weight range for the Happy Wrap is 7 - 25 lbs. or until no longer comfortable.
I’m a plus-size mom. Will the Happy Wrap fit me?
Yes. At 4.5 meters long, the Happy Wrap is designed to be one size fits most so it can easily be worn by parents and caregivers of different sizes. Simply tie the knot at your back when wrapping.
Are the dyes used in your fabrics safe?
Yes. We use safe non-toxic dyes.
Where are your baby wraps made?
We are proud to say that our baby wraps are 100% made in the USA. Our fabric is custom knitted and dyed for us by one of our US mill partners before being cut and sewn by work-from-home sewists.
How does Happy Wrap compare to the other baby wraps?
The Happy Wrap is a stretchy wrap made from a custom Tencal Modal / organic cotton blend. We added organic cotton to our custom blend in early 2016 to provide durability and support. The wrap is lightweight, breathable and wicks moisture away from the body. The fabric is soft like cashmere and has the perfect amount of stretch + support, keeping your baby snug, safe and comfortable.
Is the Happy Wrap suitable for forward, hip or back carrying?
No. Never use the Happy Baby Wrap for a forward facing, hip, or back carry position.
Babywearing FAQ
Will I spoil my baby if I wear him/her too much?
No. Studies have shown that carried babies quickly develop a sense of trust and security and they often become independent at an earlier age. You can learn more about the benefits of babywearing here.
Can I breastfeed in your carriers?
Yes. You can easily and discreetly nurse while wearing your baby in a Happy Baby Carrier. Simply lift the tension locks to lower baby into position. Remember to always keep a close watch on your baby while breastfeeding and move your baby’s face away from your breast when he/she is no longer actively nursing. Once baby is done nursing, support baby's weight and tighten the webbing to lift baby back into position.

Are your baby wraps and carriers machine washable?
Yes. Machine wash cold with like colors. Lay flat to dry. Do not use detergent that contains optical brighteners or lye. Some slight shrinkage may occur. Do not dryclean. We also recommend using a mesh laundry bag when washing for additional protection, and make sure to avoid washing with things like sharp zippers that may cause snagging, etc.
